Biography
Representative Bruce Sassmann, a Republican, represents parts of Osage, Cole, Miller, Phelps, Crawford, Gasconade counties and all of Maries County (District 62). He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2020.
In addition to his legislative duties, Sassmann is now retired from a century-old family funeral business in Bland and Belle. He has owned and operated a convenience store for 25 years. As a landlord, Sassmann continues to provide residential and commercial services.
Sassmann was named the Wildlife Conservationist of the Year in 2009 and Conservation Educator of the Year in 2017 by the Conservation Federation of Missouri. In the past years, he has also been honored with the 2010 Missouri Department of Conservation Private Land Services Partnership Award, the 2012 Missouri Quail Forever Leopold Land Ethic Award, the 2013 Missouri Chapter of Wildlife Society Andy G. Runge Award, and the 2020 NACD Hugh Hammond Bennett Conservation Excellence Farm.
A 1968 graduate of Bland High, Sassmann earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree with a lifetime teaching certificate from Missouri State University in 1973 and his Associate’s Degree in funeral service from St. Louis Community College at Forest Park in 1981.
Born August 11, 1950 in Washington, Mo., Sassmann currently resides on an Osage county family farm with his wife, Jan. They attend St. Alexander’s Catholic Church in Belle.
