Whereas, during the current economic downturn, the exportation of Missouri goods and services is critically important to the economic recovery and stability of our state; and
Whereas, finding new export opportunities, establishing and developing contacts throughout the state, and strengthening our presence in foreign markets will be necessary to not only maintain, but increase the exportation of Missouri goods and services in foreign markets; and
Whereas, as part of a comprehensive plan for economic growth in our state, a thorough assessment of Missouri's current exportation opportunities and activities is needed; and
Whereas, state and local governments, private industry, entrepreneurs, and economic and market experts need to work together to find new and innovative ways to market the wealth of goods and services produced in Missouri to other states and countries; and
Whereas, in order to develop an effective strategy for our economic recovery and stability, input from all sectors of our state is necessary:
Now, therefore, be it resolved that we, the members of the Missouri House of Representatives, Ninety-fifth General Assembly, request the Speaker of the House of Representatives to appoint a House Interim Committee on Exports that is authorized to function during the legislative interim between the Second Regular Session of the Ninety-fifth General Assembly and First Regular Session of the Ninety-sixth General Assembly to comprehensively study and make recommendations regarding exportation of Missouri goods, including an assessment, exploring opportunities, establishing contacts throughout the state, and strengthening foreign markets; and
Be it further resolved that the House Interim Committee shall prepare a final report, together with its recommendations for any legislative action deemed necessary for submission to the General Assembly prior to commencement of the First Regular Session of the Ninety-sixth General Assembly; and
Be it further resolved that the House Interim Committee may solicit input and information necessary to fulfill its obligations, including but not limited to soliciting input and information from any state department or agency the House Interim Committee deems relevant, law enforcement agencies, and the general public; and
Be it further resolved that the staffs of House Research and the Joint Committee on Legislative Research shall provide such legal, research, clerical, technical, and bill drafting services as the House Interim Committee may require in the performance of its duties; and
Be it further resolved that the actual and necessary expenses of the House Interim Committee, its members, and any staff assigned to the House Interim Committee incurred by the House Interim Committee shall be paid by the House Contingent Fund.
