AN ACT

To amend chapter 217, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to inmate charges for medical treatment at correctional facilities.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

Section A. Chapter 217, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 217.243, to read as follows:

217.243. 1. Any inmate who receives on-site medical examination or treatment from the correctional center's medical personnel or contracted medical providers shall be assessed a charge of twenty-five cents per visit for such medical examination or treatment; except that, an inmate shall not be assessed a charge for any mandatory medical tests or treatment, any post-diagnostic follow-up visits or treatment, or dental visits or other medical services or treatment that maintains the health of the inmate and controls the overall medical costs of providing medical services and treatment.

            2. Nothing in this section shall be construed as denying medical services to any inmate who does not have sufficient funds available to pay the assessed charge under this section.

            3. Any moneys collected under this section shall be used as determined by the department of corrections to help defray the costs associated with providing medical care to inmates.
