3/20 – House Gives Initial Approval to FY 2013 State Operating Budget

Jefferson City – Members of the Missouri House gave first-round approval Tuesday night to the 13 appropriations bills that make up the state’s fiscal year 2013 operating budget. The bills make up a total operating budget of approximately $24 billion.

The budget approved by House members includes an increase of slightly more than $5 million in basic aid for public schools; appropriating more than $3 billion for the school Foundation Formula. The budget also restores a governor-recommended cut of approximately $106 million to public colleges and universities.

The 13 appropriations bills require another round of votes in the House before moving to the Senate for consideration.
