SB0839C-Committee Bill Summary (House)

HCS SB 839 -- UNEMPLOYMENT BENEFITS

CO-SPONSORS: Howard, Clay (Luetkenhaus)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on Workers' Compensation & Employment Security by a vote of 15 to 0.

This substitute requires that not-for-profit organizations described in section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code with less than 4 employees and churches and other religious organizations provide an employee with written notice that such employee's wages will not be used to determine eligibility for unemployment benefits.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that employees should know whether their wages at a given job will be used to determine their eligibility for unemployment benefits. This bill addresses that issue by requiring certain employers to notify their employees that their wages will not be counted in this manner.

Testifying for the bill was Senator Howard.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
