INTRODUCED
HB 730 -- Insurance Agents
Sponsor: Thomason
The bill repeals existing law which requires the licensing of
insurance agents and brokers and provides for the licensing of
insurance producers. Insurance producers are individuals who
solicit, procure, or bind policies of insurance. Acting as an
insurance producer without a license is a class A misdemeanor.
Certain individuals are exempt from the licensing requirements.
Requirements to obtain a license include: passing a written
examination; taking a prelicensing study course; and paying a
$100 application fee. After licensure, an insurance producer is
required to complete a 25 hour continuing education requirement
for the first 4 years he or she is licensed and pay a $100
annual renewal fee.
