HB 1099 -- VETERANS OF OPERATION IRAQ/ENDURING FREEDOM DAY

SPONSOR:  Fitzwater

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass by consent" by the Committee on
Veterans by a vote of 12 to 0.

This bill designates March 26 of each year as "Veterans of
Operation Iraq/Enduring Freedom Day" in Missouri when citizens
are encouraged to observe the day with appropriate events,
activities, and remembrances in honor of the veterans who served
during military operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

FISCAL NOTE:  No impact on state funds in FY 2013, FY 2014, and
FY 2015.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill sets aside a day where
the citizens are given an opportunity to recognize and honor
veterans who served in those military operations.

Testifying for the bill were Representative Fitzwater; and Dewey
Rhein, Veterans of Foreign Wars of the United States, Missouri
Department and Missouri Association of Veterans Organizations.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
