HB 63 -- Sex Education in Public Schools Sponsor: Davis This bill revises the current requirements for presenting information in public schools relating to contraception and sexually transmitted diseases. School districts and charter schools are prohibited from providing abortion services or allowing a person or entity who provides abortion services from offering, sponsoring, or furnishing course materials related to human sexuality and sexually transmitted diseases. Information on contraception must be consistent with federal abstinence education law. Course materials must also include the benefits of a lifelong monogamous marriage between a man and a woman and details of fetal developmental milestones. Currently, curriculum materials must be made available for inspection prior to their use. The bill clarifies that the materials should be available one week before use and also requires that schools must make known the instructor's name and any affiliation with an entity involved with human sexuality instruction at least one week in advance.
