Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

SB 233 -- SALES TAX FOR PERRY COUNTY

SPONSOR:  Crowell (Stevenson)

COMMITTEE ACTION:  Voted "do pass" by the Special Committee on
Tax Reform by a vote of 10 to 0.

Upon voter approval, this bill authorizes Perry County to levy a
sales tax of up to 1/4 of 1% to equally fund senior services and
youth programs.  The revenue received for senior services will be
administered by a senior services tax commission.

FISCAL NOTE:  Estimated Income on General Revenue Fund of $0 or
Unknown in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010.  No impact on Other
State Funds in FY 2008, FY 2009, and FY 2010.

PROPONENTS:  Supporters say that the bill authorizes a sales tax
for Perry County to be split between children and senior funding.
Testifying for the bill was Senator Crowell.

OPPONENTS:  There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
