AN ACT

To amend chapter 195, RSMo, by adding thereto one new section relating to drug prescriptions.

Be it enacted by the General Assembly of the state of Missouri, as follows:

            Section A. Chapter 195, RSMo, is amended by adding thereto one new section, to be known as section 195.072, to read as follows:

            195.072. All written prescriptions issued by a practitioner authorized to prescribe controlled substances pursuant to section 195.070 shall:

            (1) Be legibly printed or typed so as to be capable of being understood by the pharmacist filling the prescription;

            (2) Contain the name of the prescribing practitioner, the name and strength of the drug prescribed, the quantity of the drug prescribed in both textual and numerical formats, and the directions for use of the drug;

            (3) Be dated with the month written out in textual letters; and

            (4) Be signed by the prescribing practitioner on the day when issued.
