Biography:
Rep. Jay Barnes, a Republican, represents Cole County (District 60) in the Missouri House of Representatives. He was elected to his first two-year term in November 2010.

In addition to his legislative duties, Rep. Barnes is an attorney with Barnes and Associates. He previously worked as general counsel to Missouri Senate President Pro Tem Michael Gibbons and as a policy counsel and speechwriter for Governor Matt Blunt.

Rep. Barnes is a member of Immaculate Conception Church in Jefferson City. He is a member of the Chamber of Commerce, Jefferson City Young Professionals, the Missouri Bar Association, the Jefferson City Association of Realtors, and Farm Bureau.

Rep. Barnes is a 1998 graduate of Helias High School. He received his bachelor’s degree and his Juris Doctorate from the University of Missouri - Columbia. While in law school, he won the Ike Skelton Award for earning the best score in his class in Trial Practice.

Born December 27, 1979 in Jefferson City, Rep. Barnes currently resides there with his wife, Jane, and their three children.
