Summary of the House Committee Version of the Bill

HCS SS SB 118 -- SPRINKLER SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR LONG-TERM CARE
FACILITIES

SPONSOR: Stouffer (Sater)

COMMITTEE ACTION: Voted "do pass" by the Committee on Health
Care Policy by a vote of 11 to 0.

Currently, certain long-term care facilities are required to
install and maintain an approved sprinkler system by December 31,
2012. This substitute extends the implementation date to
December 31, 2014.

FISCAL NOTE: No impact on state funds in FY 2012, FY 2013, and
FY 2014.

PROPONENTS: Supporters say that the bill will make sure a
long-term care facility has adequate fire protection for its
residents. By extending the date, it will allow the expensive
fire and alarm protection equipment to be appropriately and
adequately implemented and installed.

Testifying for the bill were Senator Stouffer; and LeadingAge
Missouri.

OPPONENTS: There was no opposition voiced to the committee.
